Hyderabad to have it’s own Smart city on the lines of the Dubai Internet City. Representatives of Dubai Holdings visit Shamshabad
The Telangana government is in talks with Dubai Holdings, a Dubai government-owned company , for establishing a state-of-the-art `Smart City” in Hyderabad.
Dubai Holdings officials were invited to the city by IT minister K T Rama Rao when the latter visited the Gulf in December last to explore the possibility of setting up the Smart City . The visit by the company representatives assumes importance in view of the upcoming visit to some Gulf nations by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao this weekend to meet with investors and to promote industrial and business investments in Telangana. Another Gulf-based company , the Lulu Group, has already expressed interest to invest Rs 2,000 crore in Telangana with plans to build a hyper-mall, fruit and meat processing centres.
Dubai Holdings representatives on Wednesday were taken around various possible locations, including some spots near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad where Smart City could be set up. The company is currently involved in the construction of the nearly Rs 4,000 crore Kochi Smart City in Kerala that is expected to generate up to 90,000 jobs in the IT sector and support services.
The Telangana IT minister wants the Smart City to be part of the Information Technology and Investment Region (ITIR) that the state government plans to develop with Hyderabad as the central hub.
Rama Rao met the company representatives here on Wednesday and explained the state”s plan to develop the Hyderabad region, the growth potential of the city and future expansion plans and the steps taken to turn the city into a `world class” urban area, Jayesh Ranjan, vice-chairman and managing director of the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, said.
The minister and his aides were presented with the details of Smart City , the facilities it would have and the advantages of an integrated facility that would house plug-and-play offices, be environmentally-friendly and also have residential areas as part of the planned venture. Jayesh Ranjan said the state government would study in detail the Kochi Smart City plans to incorporate the best ideas and concepts into Hyderabad”s Smart City . The company representatives will come back to the government with their proposals after they study the state”s plans for such a city, he added.
